Osino (E/R), Aug. 17, GNA - The youth of Osino in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region have protested against the President's nominee Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar for District Chief Executive (DCE) in spite of various petitions from the chiefs of the area.

"We the youths, in solidarity with the chiefs, NPP patrons and the people of Fanteakwa, are totally appalled and disappointed in the shabby treatment meted out to us in the matter of the appointment of the DCE for Fanteakwa," the youth stated in a petition.

The petition was read by the secretary of a group calling itself "Osino Youth Committee", Mr Kwame Offei Anyim, at a press conference organized at Osino on Tuesday.

The petition, which was signed by Mr Osae Ofosu Appiah, Chairman, Mr Kwame Gyamera, Organiser, Mr Adu Ansah, Assistant Secretary and Ms Ama Antwiah, Women Organiser, called on President J.A. Kufuor to withdraw Mr Ofoe Caesar "in the interest of peace."

According to the petition, on July 29, this year, a delegation of chiefs to the Castle met with one Mr Ankama, who assured them that Mr Ofoe Caesar would not be re-nominated, purely on the grounds of "poor performance"

"We were totally shocked that two days after our meeting with Mr Ankama, he issued a statement on your behalf nominating Mr Ofoe Caesar, imposing him on us", the petition said.

It said though the nomination of a DCE was the sole prerogative of the President, they were convinced that the President was "being misinformed and being let down by the people around you".

"Mr President, if you are a listening President, then, listen to us; the chiefs, party executives and the entire community of Fanteakwa", they pleaded.

They alleged that Mr Ofoe Caesar was influencing the assembly members with money so as to gain their confidence and threatened to take the law into their own hands if the nomination of the incumbent DCE was confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Assembly is to vote on Friday to confirm or reject Mr Ofoe Caesar.
