President John Mahama says the Osu Castle will be opened to the public once he moves out completely from there.

He said the public can then have access to and be allowed to take photographs of the colonial edifice.

The President was speaking at a short ceremony at the Flagstaff House, Thursday, to symbolize the relocation of the seat of government.

He described the relocation as the closure of a chapter of Ghana’s history and the dawn of a new era.

The Osu Castle, which some say symbolises Ghana’s triumph over imperialism, has been the seat of government for over five decades.

Security officials have often prevented ordinary citizens from going near or loitering around the structure and taking photographs was forbidden.

But the President said Ghanaians can visit the site and take photographs once the Castle is opened to the public.
