Oti Regional Coordinating Council to prevent infrastructural over concentration in capital - Kwasi Owusu-Yeboah

The Oti Regional Minister, Kwasi Owusu-Yeboah, has stated that a development scheme would be designed to ensure an equitable distribution of infrastructure across the infant region.

He hinted the scheme would regulate locating of decentralized institutions, organs and agencies to avoid infrastructural overconcentration in the regional capital, Dambai, which may lead to overcrowding, traffic and sanitation challenges.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Oti Region in Dambai, Mr Owusu-Yeboah said the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) will collaborate with other RCCs towards development of the region.

“Such collaborations may take form of bilateral co-operation agreements involving joint trade, economic and cultural fairs that are bound to create and reinforce that friendly relations between the regions”, he explained.

The Krachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, complimented President Akufo-Addo for bringing to an end the over 60-year struggle for a region, adding the creation of the Oti Region ‘restored the identity of people in the Oti Enclave’.

“We assure you [President Akufo-Addo] that your name will be engraved in the letters of gold in annals of the Oti Region”, he affixed.

Nana Besemuna, however, reckoned that construction of a bridge over River Oti in Dambai would facilitate commerce and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the area.

In response, President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism work would commence on the bridge over River Oti in the last quarter of 2019.

“The pre-feasibility studies have been completed, the financial terms are being examined today at the Ministry of Finance, and the Roads Minister is waiting for ‘no objection letter’ from Finance before they can negotiate the construction agreement, which will be brought to Cabinet and then to Parliament for approval,” he stated.



He urged regional officials selected to work at the Oti RCC to deliver to the best of their abilities to ensure a rapid development of the region.

“I will pay particular attention to the work they will be doing in Oti”, said President Akufo-Addo who earlier inspected site for the construction of the Oti RCC.
