?WORRIED ABOUT ETHNO-CENTRIC TWIST TO NATIONAL AFFAIRS

Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, the Asantehene, says it is regrettable that at a time the nation needs unity of purpose to fight against poverty, diseases and illiteracy, which are undermining efforts at national development, so much energy is being wasted to whip up tribal ethno-centric divisions.

?Every genuine effort a group of people makes to try and improve the quality of life of the people is being interpreted these days, along tribal lines. This is dangerous. It creates enmity and is a danger to development,? the Asantehene said while welcoming a committee he appointed to advise on how to enhance public relations at the Manhyiah Palace.

The five-man committee appointed by the Otumfuo under the chairmanship of Dr Kwabena Duffuor, former governor of the Bank of Ghana had called at the palace to submit its report.

According to the Asantehene, the essence of traditional authority is to lead by example to inspire the people to improve on their quality of life and added that ?As a nation, we have to ensure that the people are healthy and well educated to combat poverty.?
