Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has welcomed the newly-appointed Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Peter Anarfi Mensah, to the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, urging him to be duty-conscious to bring sustainable development to the region.
“It is expected of you not to pursue your own personal interest, but seek the general welfare of the people to alleviate their plight”, he advised.
“You must ensure that the government’s policies and vision, relating to education, health, youth development, job creation, security and growth of the other sectors of the economy, impact positively on the people”.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu reminded the Regional Minister to also work closely with identifiable development partners, such as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as Heads of Departments, and the security agencies, since nation-building was a shared responsibility.
The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Kojo Bonsu, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, Regional Police Commander, as well as Heads of the other security agencies, Departments and Agencies.
The Asantehene cautioned the Regional Minister not to lord it over the people, but serve with humility and in the fear of God in the discharge of his duties, to engender good working relationship with stakeholders.
He advised him to be truthful, while demonstrating transparency and accountability in the discharge of his duties for the effective utilization of state resources.
Mr. Anarfi pledged to be committed to addressing the needs of the people to ensure their comfort.
He would also liaise effectively with traditional authorities in his work, since they were all agents of change, seeking to improve on the living conditions of the people.
