Kumasi, May 9, GNA - Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has lamented that political leaders in the country are always fighting for their selfi= sh interest instead of seeking the wellbeing of the people. He said: "The political leaders are always fighting because of power and=

money and take decisions without thinking about the interest of the major= ity of people, especially those in rural areas.

"We leave in a country where politics is everywhere and the truth an= d genuine concerns of the people are missing".

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the observation at a thanksgiving service, organised in his honour by the Calvary Charismatic Centre in Kumasi on Sunday, as part of the Asantehene's 60th birthday anniversary celebration= s. He said that contrary to believe that politics seeks to enhance the welf= are of the people, Ghanaian politicians engage in activities such as corrupti= on and deceit that rather, impoverish the people.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu asked "If politicians genuinely think about the development of the people, why do they always fight and spend millions of=

cedis to seek and maintain positions and neglect the concerns of the people?" The Asantehene said that he was committed to the development of the people and that "I crave for proper leadership, development and truth at all times". Otumfuo Osei Tutu said he would continue to rely on God for guidance and=

asked Christians to pray for him so that he could effectively lead and se= rve the people.

Pastor Ransford Obeng, Head Pastor of the Church in a sermon, called on the congregation to glorify God. He said the Church recognized the contribution of Otumfuo Osei Tutu to the development of Ghana.

The church presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 towards the Otumfuo Education Fund and a plaque, Bible engraved with his name and other gifts= to the Asantehene, his wife and the Queen mother of Asante, Nana Afua Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
