Our CJ Is Back ...and callers upset with Chronicle story

Wed, 8 Dec 1999 Source: Taken off SayItLoud

The Chief Justice is back in the country, the Chronicle has just learnt.

Mr. Justice I.K. Abban returned quietly even before this paper published a story about his failing health on Monday and is expected to resume duty next month.

A number of people called on Monday to complain about the headline of Monday citing that health conditions were personal matters not for mass public consumption.

Callers included Ghana Journalists Association?s President Mrs. Gifty Affenyi-Dadzi who noted the headline breached the code of ethics which enjoins journalists to ?exercise tact and diplomacy in reporting matters of such nature? (Article 16, GJA Code of Ethics).

The association?s President,s Mrs. Affenyi-Dadzie conceded that the Chief Justice?s health status might be of interest to Ghanaians as he is three steps away from the Presidency, but suggested that the headline could have been muted.

The Chronicle staff and management wish to apologise to the Chief Justice and his family.
