The Office of Member of Parliament for Damongo and the Coalition of Churches in Damongo have disputed false reports that their MP, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu gave them 1 bag of rice each which they rejected.

A report planted on a media outlet Rainbow Radio claimed the Churches rejected the alleged 1 bag of rice donation because they believe the Muslims get more from the MP during their festivities.

The Coalition of Damongo Churches has however disputed this report, calling it an “evil agenda” to poison the peace and mutual respect existing between the peaceful Muslims and Christians of Damongo for political gains.

According to them, the MP, Adam Mutawakilu rather presented Ghc500 and 5 bags of rice each to 12 Churches (Catholic Church St Vincent The Poor, The Damongo Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the ECG Church, The Assemblies of God Church, Christ Liberty Church among many others) and 2 orphanages in the constituency benefited.

The Church Coalition says the MP’s gesture is very commendable and timely, particularly for the little children at the orphanages.

They condemned the false media report and warned potential opponents of the MP not to use the Church as their tool for spreading falsehood.

A video of the various presentations made in Church by the MP has been released on social media and is being shared by both Muslims and Christians of Damongo in defense of the MP.

MP’s office reacts

The Office of the MP has also reacted to the development. According to a statement signed by aide and Research Assistant to Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, Issifu Seidu Kudus Gbeadese, the MP left Accra for the constituency the very next day after parliament went on recess.

“His first point of call was the Christian community where he continued with his Yes campaign for the Savannah Region. In the process, he donated some bags of rice and some amount of cash to the less privileged in these churches.”

Mr Kudus revealed that his boss first visited the Damongo Catholic Church and many othet Churches “where he donated 5 bags of rice and GHC 500.00 each.

“In all 12 churches were visited with same gesture including two churches in Murugu, a community outside of Damongo township.” He explained.

The last to receive was the Orphanage in Damongo which the MP has been assisting with food items and cash for the past 8 years.

Mr Kudus called on Rainbow Radio to desist from allowing their outlet to be used for political hatchet jobs, advising that they verify before publishing.

“The legislator is focused and would not get destructed from his core duties as a Member of Parliament and a Ranking Member of Mines and Energy Committee.” He said.

“We further call on both Rainbow Radio and Ghanaweb to retract the story and apologize to the MP, the coalition of churches in Damongo and the good people of Damongo Constituency for this disservice.” He added.
