*Our Party Calls Us to Duty: Akufo-Addo Tells Alan, Isaac Osei and Frimpong Boateng*

*Tuesday, August 10, 2010:-* The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has told his colleagues who contested him in the August 7 primaries of the party to come on board immediately to ensure that the NPP wins the votes of the great majority of the Ghanaian people in 2012.

“Our party calls all of us to duty and we have a huge responsibility on our hands to ensure that the party wins power in 2012. Saturday’s election is a victory for our party but as we all know the major task of winning power in 2012 is only just beginning.” Akufo-Addo said.

Nana Akufo-Addo shared these words with the three other aspirants when they met in his Nima residence Tuesday morning for a breakfast meeting upon Akufo-Addo’s request.

The meeting, which was open to the media at the early stages, was later closed to allow for a more private discussion on the way forward for the party. It was a cordial and successful meeting that ended with everyone happy and ready for the job ahead.

On their part, the three other aspirants pledged their unflinching support to Nana Akufo-Addo and the party to ensure that the party is elected back to power in 2012.

In an interview with the media after the meeting, Nana Akufo-Addo disclosed that “this is the first of many meetings with my colleagues. All I can say to you is that it was a very fruitful meeting held in a very friendly atmosphere.”

“We took the opportunity to congratulate each other and we came to a couple of important agreements one of which is the matter of working with a united spirit to ensure that we can get all our supporters on board for the battle that lies ahead of us” he said.

Alan Kyerematen also told the media that it was a successful meeting that ended very well. “It also offered all of us the opportunity to agree on our immediate line of action as we move forward into battle to wrestle power from the NDC.” he said. “We pledged our support for Nana Akufo-Addo and the entire party.” he added.

Also in attendance was former Press Secretary to President Kufuor, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and former MP for Salaga, Boniface Abubakar Siddique.

The rest are former NPP General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, Victor Newman, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Frema Opare, and Herbert Krapa.

Also in attendance were the party Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.

Nana Akufo-Addo soon after that meeting moved to the Party Headquarters at Asylum down to meet representatives of the party’s external branches.

Nana Akufo-Addo used the opportunity to introduce himself to them upon his election as the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2012 general election and to solicit their support as he leads the party into victory in 2012.

Nana Akufo-Addo is also scheduled to meet the National Executives of the party at the party headquarters later Tuesday evening to formally introduce himself to the leadership of the party and to commence discussions as the party readies itself for the 2012 campaign.
