Our choices are for the living, not the dead - Ya Naa calls for peaceful elections

The King and Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II, has called for peaceful Presidential and Parliamentary Elections on December 7.

The Dagbon ruler said Ghanaians must aspire to and seek a peaceful environment to be able to continue electing their leaders.

He said, “I again use this occasion to appeal to all citizens of Ghana to remain peaceful throughout the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. I appeal to all and sundry to aspire to and seek a peaceful environment to continue exercising our choices now and forever.”

Ghana is heading into keenly contested Presidential and Parliamentary Elections scheduled for this Saturday, December 7.

With the political temperature high, various statesmen and stakeholders have called for peaceful elections.

Adding his voice to the calls for peaceful elections, Ndan Ya-Naa urged Ghanaians to remember that elections are held for the living; thus, one has to stay alive to benefit from the choices they make during elections.

“Let’s remember that our choices are for the living, not for the dead,” he stressed.

The Dagbon Overlord was speaking in a speech at the sod-cutting ceremony for the reconstruction of the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi on Saturday.

Ndan Ya-Naa said the reconstruction of the palace was part of his 10-year development plan that also includes consolidating the peace of Dagbon, boosting agriculture, and improving access to education in Dagbon.

He appealed to the people of the Northern Region to stop bush burning, as, according to him, the perennial bush burning has depleted agricultural productivity in the region.
