Ashantigold SC coach C.K. Akunnor has attributed his side's mid-week victory over Hearts of Oak to a well-executed game plan.
The Miners have not lost to the Phobians at the Accra Sports Stadium in the last two league meetings and extended that unbeaten run when Daniel Gozar's first half strike secured the 2014/15 champions all three points in Wednesday’s Ghana Premier League game.
Akunnor told the media after the game his technical ploy to neutralise the prowess of his former employers worked to perfection.
"Our focus was to try as much as we [could] in the first 20 minutes, because from the [videos we watched] Hearts always score in the first 20 minutes. Patrick Razak is instrumental for the side going forward and we needed to stop him,” he said.
"Winful Cobbinah, another influential player, was absent and we made sure Malik Akowuah, another good player, did not function. We dominated the midfield, possessed the ball very well, and we frustrated them."
Ashgold are now unbeaten in their last five league matches – a feat that has seen them rise from 15th to 13th in a torrid 2016/17 season.
