The Member of Parliament for Builsa South constituency Dr. Clement Abass Apaak has suggested the leadership of parliament is putting the lives of MPs, staff and other persons at risk considering the refusal of MPs, staff and journalists who have tested positive for coronavirus to stay away from the house.

The MP is worried the situation if addressed would have serious implications for the legislative house.

He has spoken against the idea of keeping the identities of those infected a secret.

He, therefore, wants the names of these individuals made known to protect those who have not contracted the virus.

His reaction is coming after the Majority Leader disclosed that some MPs, staff and journalists who have tested positive to the virus have refuse3d to self-isolate and visiting parliament.

The Majority Leader presenting the business of the house on Friday expressed frustration about how some persons who have tested positive for the virus are defying orders to stay away from the House.

Presenting the business statement before the House Friday the MP asked such persons to stop coming to the House.

The MP further lamented that the affected persons including journalists have defied the communications from the Covid-19 that they should stay away following their positive results.

Dr. Apaak reacting to this said: ”Leadership is putting us at risk, they know those with the virus, the rest of us don’t. Is it right that they see them and dodge and the rest of us just zombie around. It’s not right, we have a right to know under these circumstances where those with the virus have refused to stay away!”

Covid 19 in Parliament- Folks, Sorry I’ve to truncate the celebration. You have wished me well and I expect to live long. This also means that I must speak out when my life is at risk.

Ghana is now one of the countries said to be recording high cases of COVID in Africa. We are beyond 10,000 cases. Even some members of Parliament, staff and Parliamentary journalists are infected. Yet, only the parliamentary leadership knows their identity, what of the rest of us?

The majority leader is on record to have said MPs, staff and journalists infected with Covid 19 have refused to stay away, and we troop into parliament from Monday to Friday with them. Are our lives not important? And why would they refuse to stay away, is it wickedness?

Leadership is putting us at risk, they know those with the virus, the rest of us don’t. Is it right that they see them and dodge and the rest of us just zombie around. It’s not right, we have a right to know under these circumstances where those with the virus have refused to stay away! I remain a citizen.
