Contrary to arguments within the camp of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the effect that the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had no moral authority to claim that it has achieved a lot in three years than the Eight gifted years of the former NPP regime under President John Agyekum Kufuor, the President of the republic of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills says, ‘’Our record is there for all to see.’’
Speaking to some journalists in Lome-Togo, President Mills said he was confident of winning the 2012 presidential elections on the bases of the successes his government had chalked.
‘’I am not saying this because I am Atta Mills or as a member of the NDC, it is because most of the promises made to the people had been fulfilled.
He stressed that, if you look around you would see evidence of our handiwork. Nobody will tell you there is the need for us to renew pour mandate so we can continue to do more for the people.’’
He said, ‘’nobody can doubt that the living standards of the people have improved! Nobody can doubt government determination to guarantee Ghanaians can hold body and soul together, our record is there for all to see.’’
Touching on the hitches which have characterized the ongoing biometric registration exercise, the leader of the NDC and chairman of the Ghana armed forces said there was the need for Ghanaians to deal with each other in the best of faith.
‘’There will be challenges in the registration exercise, but it does not mean that you should impute any ill-motive to anybody, they will be solved such as things have been solved in the past, we will do nothing different.’’ President Mills said.
President Mills echoed his government’s resolve defend the democratic credentials that Ghana had carved for itself.
‘’My government will do everything humanly possible to keep the sanctity of Ghana’s democracy, and will not allow Ghana to burn under my watch.’’ He said.
