Some Female students from senior high schools within the Assin area in the Central Region have levelled allegations against their male teachers for harassing them sexually on campus.

The students further stated that, despite learning hard to pass their exams, they are always harassed with sex from their teachers to have good grades and money.

The students made this revelations at the climax of this year’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence at Assin Anode.

The students who are from Assin Manso SHS, Nyankomasi SHS, Obiri Yeboah SHS, Assin State College, and Assin North Community Day School, explained further that, “They worry us too much especially those of us in the boarding house.”

“They tell you they will give you money and good grades and if you don’t agree to the proposal they sometimes beat you, hate you and even sack you from their class or even fail you in exams.”

“And sometimes because some of our parents are illiterate, they are unable to understand some of the demands we make so they can provide for us, So we easily fall prey to the demands of our female teachers,” they said.

However, expressing worry about the students revelations, the sector minister, Madam Otiko Djaba, indicated that, Ghana frowns on all forms of abuses, and stressed on the need to end teenage pregnancy, child prostitution, defilement, rape, child marriage and human trafficking as Ghana progresses as a nation.

According to her strict measures would be instituted in various Senior High Schools, more especially in girls’ schools to check the activities of male teacher’s.

“It is important for all to know that, it is against the law to commit a crime against both children and adults. Adding that, any teacher who will fall prey to the law, that is either by harassing students unnecessarily or exchanging their studies with sex will be held by the law”, Otiko Djaba stressed.
