Over 200 supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Abetifi constituency daily, according to the deputy general secretary of the ruling party in the Eastern region, Annor Dompreh.

Dompreh’s revelation follows the official launch of the party’s electoral objective for the next general elections dubbed agenda 50/50. To this end, the Eastern Regional Secretariat of the party has mapped out a two-pronged strategy that groups all the parliamentary seats into two.

The seats the NDC seeks to snatch from the NPP include Asuogyaman, Ayensuano, Abetifi, Fanteakwa North, Abirim, Suhum, Akim Oda and Ofoase/Ayirebi.

Speaking to Nana Yaa Boamponsem Ameyaw on Agoo FM’s Morning Show ‘Enne Nso Biom’, the deputy General Secretary said they are winning 50% of the votes, leaving the rest for the other political parties to share.

Dompreh added some supporters of the NPP in Abetifi are defecting to the NDC because they believe their delegates chose the wrong person as their parliamentary candidate.

Bryan Acheampong defeated three other contestants with 499 votes out of the 633 votes cast to win the party’s nomination for Abetifi constituency.

In response, the director of communications of the NPP in the Abetifi constituency, Isaac Agyapong strongly lambasted the NDC deputy secretary, describing the NDC as a confused party which can no longer steer the affairs of Ghana.
