TUDEC, a Non-Governmental Organization, observed the 2024 Eid-ul-Adha celebrations by donating bags of meat to over 32,000 families across the country.
The organization, which has shown consistent support to the less-privileged in society, held meat donation exercises in Accra, Cape Coast in the Central Region, Koforidua, Kumasi, and Sekondi-Takoradi.
The gesture is part of TUDEC’s ‘putting people first’ motto, which advances the interests of the poor in society.
It is also in fulfilment of Islamic traditions, which involve slaughtering cattle and bringing excitement to the less privileged.
A volunteer with TUDEC, Sukran Kaya, said, "We are here to share the goodness and help people. Sharing and sacrificing is our biggest motivation for the gesture, and nothing can be more motivating than this," she added.
Eid-ul-Adha "is one of the most important Islamic events for Muslims as it is celebrated to emulate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son, Ishmael, in submission to Allah’s command before he was re-instructed to use an animal."
In all, about 950 cattle were slaughtered, estimated to have reached 32,000 families.
Recipients of the meat were delighted to have received their share of the popular 'Eid meat' and encouraged the organization to continue to reach out.
