Communications Director of the Ghana Gas , Ernest Owusu Bempah, has come at former president John Dramani Mahama whom he has accused of misusing the taxes of Ghanaians to fuel the Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan (Karpowership).
Agreeing to the allegations by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that the former administration exploited Ghanaians by misappropriating their hard earned money to power Karpowership which run on heavy fuel to generate electricity, Ernest stated that it could have been prevented if the power vessel was made to thrive on gas for power transmission.
The 470 Megawatts Powership, which was operating on Heavy Fuel Oil, was sailed from its previous point in Tema Fishing Harbour to Sekondi to utilize Natural Gas from the Western Enclave.
According to government, the country was losing millions of dollars monthly as a result of high transportation cost; hence the move.
In an interview, Owusu Bempah thus commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for saving tax payers’ money by introducing the use of gas to power the vessel.
He praised Akufo-Addo for fulfilling his promise to fix power challenges which run a many business into huge losses. He added that once the gas power transmission begins, it will be beneficiary for the One District One Factory initiative.
“The previous government signed an agreement which was costing the tax payer twenty million USD every month. The president in his own wisdom noticed that the whole thing was becoming a white elephant so there was a need to take a step by introducing electricity to help the people of Ghana.”
Karpowership has been off the national grid for some days to carry out various pre-commissioning works to successfully connect with the 330kV transmission lines in Sekondi, according to a statement by Karpowership Ghana Company Limited.
