Owusu-Bempah replies Otabil over ‘God does not choose leaders’ comment, affirms Mahama presidency prophecy

The Founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has reacted to the ‘God does not choose leaders for countries’ comment by Dr. Mensa Otabil, the Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC).

Delivering a sermon at his church on Sunday, October 13, 2024, Owusu-Bempah indicated that although he has so much respect for Dr. Otabil, whom he described as one of the senior clergymen in Ghana, he vehemently disagrees with his assertion.

The founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International pointed out that the Bible, the good book of Christians, has numerous examples of God choosing leaders of nations.

He said that God does not only choose leaders of nations, but he also chooses people to lead and guide his flock; adding that all leaders, including Otabil and himself, have faults, and that does not mean that they were not called by God.

“The fact that some leaders, including men of God, make mistakes does not mean that God does not choose leaders. God would continue to choose men of God and empower them to do His work. Which leader chosen by God had no faults in the Bible? Moses had faults; Noah was not perfect; Abraham, Jacob, David, Samson, and many of them had faults. The fact that they were not perfect does not mean that God did not choose them.

“In all humility, I have great respect for Dr. Mensa Otabil because he is one of our fathers in the work of God, he is one of the people who has helped make Christianity well established in this country. He is highly anointed and so mature, but it is not right to lift your office while you bring another person’s office down," he said in Twi.

He added, “The God who called you and gave you (Otabil) teaching anointing, is the same God who calls prophets and gives us prophetic anointing to choose, like Jehoiada, like Elijah, Elisha, and Nathan. Some time ago, when he had issues - the bank issues and issues of corruption - and Ghanaians were on him, we all supported him with prayers because he is human. It happened to him, and the same can happen to me, so I had no right to condemn him. But if Dr. Mensa Otabil respects his teaching anointing, I also respect prophetic anointing.”

Owusu-Bempah went on to reaffirm his prophecy of the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, becoming the next president of Ghana.

He said that God has told him that Mahama would become president because he has a good heart.

“I don’t know how his (Mahama’s) heart was in the past, but I, the person God told he could never be president, am the same person God has told that He has given the leadership of Ghana to. Whether you like it or not, he (Mahama) is the person going to win the election."

Delivering a sermon at Desert Pastures, a branch of the Church of Fountain Gate Chapel (FGC) in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, Dr. Otabil said that God is not involved in the business of choosing leaders for countries.

“I don’t believe God chooses leaders for countries. If God is the one who chooses leaders, then He has been making a lot of mistakes, especially on our continent,” he is quoted to have said by GNA.

The pastor reiterated that God was not in the leadership choosing process; adding that it was a lazy way of thinking.

“It is a way of abdicating your responsibility and hoping that whatever comes, it is God’s will, no it is our will, it is the will of the people.

“If you are foolish, you make a foolish choice. God doesn’t choose leaders. Go and vote. You are choosing the leader. You can pray and say God guide me, but that is up to you,” he told the congregation.
