PAC member calls for suspension of committee

A member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, Ibrahim Abubakar is calling for the suspension of the committee’s work until a total review of its procedures is done.

The Committee’s Chairman Albert Kan-Dapaah has been accused of being dictatorial in handling the fact-finding proceedings.

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Betty Mould-Iddrisu recently accused Mr. Kan-Dapaah of blatant bias when she appeared to testify in the CP 94 million euros judgment debt saga.

The majority side of the committee also boycotted Wednesday’s hearing until they are furnished with certain documents requested. They are calling for a change in the chairman’s attitude for the final report to look transparent.

But Ibrahim Abubakar suggests that the committee suspends its hearings and does a post mortem of its activities before continuing.

“The PAC will have to sit down review the work procedure, find out any anomalies, find out if we are diverting from our core mandates and look at how we treat witnesses who appear before us” Mr. Abubakar said.

Meanwhile, Civil Society group, Forum for Governance and Justice says it feels vindicated by the current happenings within the Public Accounts Committee.

The forum’s comment comes amidst protestation from Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu that she has been vilified by some members of the committee especially MP for Atwima-Mponuah, Isaac Asiamah.

Convener of the Forum Dr. Clement Apaak in an interview with XYZ News said the partisan posturing of the chairman and some members of the committee hasn’t helped matters in relation to the issues being investigated.**
