PC plans to give greater attention to development of primary schools

Kumasi, Oct. 5, GNA - Mr George Abofra, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Oforikrom Constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis, has stated that when given the nod in the December polls, his prime focus would be towards lobbying for the development and expansion of basic schools in the constituency. He said to achieve such a goal he would not only lobby the appropriate authorities or District Assembly, but would also closely liaise with those in the private sector to invest more of their resources in basic schools.

Mr Abofra made the statement in an interaction with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the NDC in Kumasi. He said his plans for development of basic schools was necessitated by the fact that, even though, they served as the foundation stones and pillars of quality education for school children, very little attention was given to them in respect of quality development and equipment.

The Parliamentary Candidate said: "A greater proportion of the country's resources are most often channelled into expansion of various projects in the second cycle schools and tertiary institutions to the detriment of primary schools".

Mr Abofra explained that his mission to focus on development of basic schools should not be misconstrued as neglecting the tertiary institutions or SSS, but that it was rather a strategy to help give sound knowledge and adequately prepare the young ones to cope up with the challenges at tertiary institutions.

On sanitation, he said he would set up a scheme that would encourage and convince residents on the need to construct household toilets while regular schemes would also be put in place to persistently enlighten residents on the need for personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.

Mr Evans Ablordepey, NDC Organiser for the Constituency, entreated Ghanaians not to allow monetary offers to influence or change their voting pattern but cast their votes on the basis of their conviction about policies and visions of candidates.
