PDS inquiry to last for 30 days – Information Minister reveals

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has noted that a full-scale inquiry into the detected breach in the concession agreement with Power Distribution Service (PDS) will be completed within 30 days.

Addressing the media at the Information Ministry in Accra on Thursday, the minister added that the inquiry team which comprises of Insurance Investigation experts, officials of ECG, MiDA, Energy, and Finance Ministries are expected to be in Doha, the state of Qatar on Tuesday for further probing.

He said, “The full-scale enquiry into the detected breach has commenced and is expected to be completed within 30days. The team conducting the enquiry comprises insurance investigation experts, officials of the energy and finance ministries, and officials of the ECG and MiDA as well. The inquiry will determine the nature of the breach and advise on the suggested next steps. By Tuesday, the team is expected in Doha, Qatar as part of this inquiry”.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah further said a second team will be flown to the United States of America next week to engage with Millennium Challenge Corporation to solicit for information on the PDS saga.

He reiterated that government discovered this breach by due diligence of the Ghanaian authority through ECG and with the support of state agencies.



The minister re-echoed that “It took a third level of checks by the Ghana side which then detected that there were anomalies within our codes thereby triggering the fourth level of checks and it is this fourth level of checks which involves sending an initial team from the Ghana Mission in Qatar to engage with Al Koot officials for further verification”.

He assured stakeholders, public of updating them on the outcome of the inquiry as well as the proceedings in accordance with the law and terms of the agreement as it works towards the final resolution of this the problem.
