PDS not cleared; Gov't will disclose report soon - Deputy Information Minister

Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam Hadzide has denied reports and claims that the PDS scandal has been cleared.

According to him, the reports coming out are in bits and pieces and that they do not represent the true reflection of what is being discussed on social media.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that there is a comprehensive report about the PDS and that the government will come out in due time to explain the details of the PDS report.

"There are certain infractions in the report which government is looking into so I can confidently tell you that they have neither been cleared nor indicted," he added.

"But I can tell you that a full report will come out in no time for Ghanaians to know the truth in the matter."

He has therefore appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm as government’s position on the report will be officially made known.

The Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited has reportedly been exonerated following a 30-day investigation by the government.

The concession agreement between PDS and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was suspended on Tuesday, July 30 by the government due to “fundamental and material breaches”.

According to the government, PDS failed to provide demand guarantees for such an agreement. A full-scale investigation was, therefore, launched into the deal with ECG returning to operations.

A delegation was dispatched to Qatar and the United States as part of investigations into the deal.

Already, calls were rife for the contract to be abrogated.

The Minority, for instance, petitioned the US Embassy in Accra to help in investigations while calling for immediate termination of the deal, which was part of the Compact II of the Millennium Challenge Agreement (MCA).

On Thursday, September 5, the report on the 30-day probe into the deal was leaked. PDS was, however, faulted for not having enough financial guarantees for the deal.

This has previously been rejected by Donewell Insurance Company Limited, which questioned Qatar-based Al Koot Insurance and Reinsurance Company over allegations that it did not authorize the official that underwrote the counterparty and trade risk.
