PDS requires patience to deliver - Engineer

Power Distribution Services Limited (PDS) is working assiduously to redouble efforts to satisfy the myriads of energy predicament confounding the public and required patience from consumers of electricity.

Mr Eric Kwakye, District Engineer, Aflao Bulk Supply Point of PDS, disclosed this to newsmen on facility tour of the company to ascertain their operations and be able to inform their clientele base.

He said PDS would be businesslike at all levels to its customers in its professional bid to regain their trust.

He said the company receives a 161 Kilo volt power from Asiekpe bulk station, which it steps down into its two transformers, each with capacity of 33 KV, with one on standby to service places like Keta, Denu and Dzodze.

Mr Kwakye said currently PDS was separating distribution lines from GRIDCO onto a new system to guarantee efficiency of power to clients.

He said many outages were due to disturbances on the lines albeit falling trees, storms or thunder.

Mr Benjamin Antwi, Public Relations Officer, PDS, Volta Region, said the objective of the tour was to partner with the newsmen to understand the nuances of the energy entity and be well-positioned to engage the public targeted at prodding business.

He said journalists have the expertise to breakdown jargons technically beyond the understanding of clients.

He said PDS was forging a new relationship with its customers as they brought improved services to their doorsteps.

Mr Emmanuel Dornu, Operating Assistant, Asiekpe Bulk Station, Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO), said the station receives two 161 kV (161,000 voltage) power from Akosombo, which it stepped down to service the entire Volta and Oti Regions, Diamond Cement Company as well as the Republic of Togo.

He said investigations have commenced to ascertain the cause of a transformer explosion at Asiekpe last Tuesday that blackouted majority of areas in the Volta and Oti Regions.

That system has since been restored.
