PIM worried about plight of workers

Koforidua, May 13, GNA - The People's Independent Movement (PIM), a civil society organization that supports individuals with political ambitions has expressed worry about the poverty levels of Ghanaian workers.

A statement issued on Monday and jointly signed by Nana Addo-Aikins, Interim spokesman and Mr Osei Baidoo Pita, secretary of the organisation said fifty-one years after independence, the life of the ordinary Ghanaian worker had been laden with poverty, hunger, marginalization and economic hardship. The PIM reminded workers that the true solution to their plight lay in structural reforms within their workplaces and better working relationships with both government and management. It advised workers to link up with the poor and neglected masses to elect people who truly represented their interests into office. The message said workers must participate in governance especially at this period of oil find in Ghana to prevent exploitation of their labour.

It said workers must link up with the PIM and other civil society organizations to fight for their rights. The PIM called on the electorate to vote for Mr John Alex Hamah, a veteran trade unionist and an independent Presidential candidate in the December elections. "Mr Hamah is credible and capable enough to lead Ghana's new political struggle for social transformation", it added.
