It has emerged that the US Government is likely to impose visa restrictions on Ghanaian citizens if government fails to honour its obligations under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The United States Embassy in a statement issued on Wednesday indicated that the government of Ghana was not complying with international obligations regarding the issuance of travel documents to Ghanaians awaiting deportation in the USA. The statement said the US would be forced to begin implementing visa restrictions in accordance with its laws as a responsibility owed the American people.

However, Government of Ghana has responded to threats by the US Government refuting claims that they have failed to meet its obligations under the ICAO imploring the US Government to do due diligence and establish the nationalities of the deportees before they are issued with travel documents to establish if indeed the identified illegal migrants are Ghanaian nationals.

Also the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak has called for the suspension of the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong from Parliament because Kennedy’s conduct is unfit for someone in the legislature. Muntaka made the call after Kennedy Agyapong described him as “dumb” for referring him to Parliament’s Privileges Committee.

Kennedy Agyapong reportedly described the House as “useless” for having Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as its Majority leader on Accra-based Net2 TV, which belongs to him. These comments compelled Muntaka Mubarak to file a motion to refer Kennedy Agyapong to Parliament’s Privileges Committee. Official parliamentary records show that the committee will begin considering the referral next Tuesday, June 26. But Kennedy Agyapong feels Muntaka Mubarak’s referral was based on comments taken out of context.
