Parliament’s Privileges Committee hearing the contempt case filed against Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, adjourned its sitting on Tuesday, July 3, indefinitely, following an objection raised by counsel for the embattled legislator.

Counsel for the Assin Central MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and K.T. Hammond, drew the committee’s attention to a letter signed by three members of the Committee who expressed their intention to recuse themselves owing to their special relationship with the contemnor, Mr Agyapong.

MP for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, MP for Gomoa Central, Naana Eyiah, and MP for Upper Denkyira West, Samuel Nsowa-Djan, based their recusal on Order 164(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament that the “respondent contemnor is the caucus chairman for Central Region and all of us have a close relationship with him. We are unable therefore to discharge our duties without bias.”

NPP to elect national executives at National Delegates Conference

The much-awaited National Delegates Congress of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will come off from July 6 to July 8 at the Koforidua Technical University as scheduled.

About 600 delegates will go to the polls to elect the national executives of the NPP, who will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The Congress will provide the platform for deliberations and resolutions on the national chairman’s statement, the general secretary’s report, the national treasurer’s statement of account and other matters of the Congress’ interests.

These and many other issues were discussed in today's edition of Newsfile on JoyNews.
