This week’s edition of Newsfile on Joynews featured prominent stories that came under the spotlight in the course of the week.
Joy News featured an exposé on Akufo-Addo’s ex-bodyguard training pro-NPP militia, De-Eye, at the Osu Castle which captured the location as a security zone.
The NPP, although admitted to the footage, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the Osu Castle is not a security zone as claimed by the investigator in the documentary and neither is it an annex to the presidency.
However, Minority in Parliament called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to abdicate office immediately following the revelation of a damning national security threat right under his watch.
NDC Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo, was granted a GHC400k bail after he was arrested by the CID to answer questions on a leaked tape which allegedly had him utter very sensitive comments. The Chairman, who described himself as a very peaceful person with unblemished record, insisted that the tape was doctored.
Alleged leader of Hawks, Theophilus Sedodu, denied knowledge of the NDC-affiliated group when he took his turn at the Emile Short Commision hearing. He was one of 16 persons arrested during the violence at La-Bawaleshi during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Again, the SWAT member said he regretted assaulting Sam George’-SWAT member defending that the slap was incited by a tribalistic insult by hurled by the Ningo Prampram MP.
Panelists also touched on the mass failure on the Bar examination. Out of the 500 students who sat for the exams set by the Independent Examination Council (IEC) only 64 passed. 284 failed the professional law exams and 177 referred.
While the affected petitioned Parliament to form a committee to investigate the mass failure, School of law lecturers threatened to resign en bloc over the same issue.
