Kuntanase (Ash), Aug 09, GNA - A Presiding Member has appealed to metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to be abreast with the district assembly concept to enhance the workings of the assemblies.

Mr Joseph Kwasi Assuming, the acting Presiding Member of the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly, said if assembly members were knowledgeable in the assembly concept, members would not waste time debating and arguing over unnecessary issues during assembly meetings. He was addressing the emergency meeting of the assembly to approve the assembly's budget for 2005 at Kuntanase on Monday.

Mr Assuming said there were pressing issues which could be debated at assembly meetings that would be beneficial to the districts instead of wasting time on minor issues that do not benefit the districts. He urged the assembly members to forget about events that occurred before and during the just-ended nomination of the District Chief Executive and unite to build the district.

Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly would build 10 new schools, renovate old ones as well as 18 disused sanitation facilities this year.

He said with Kuntanase now a District Police Command and the posting of a district police commander to the area, the assembly would soon start work on a new police barracks. 09 Aug 05
