The People's National Convention, PNC says the party is dissatisfied with the judgement of the fast track court meted out to Mallam Yusuf Issah, former acting Chairman of the party.

According to the National Treasurer of the PNC Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan the party believes Mallam Issah did not steal the 46,000 dollars he has been accused of taking. Alhaji Ramadan who speaking on JOYFM’s Super Morning Show said it did not make sense that Mallam Issa would steal the money considering the fact that he had four years at his disposal during which he could have acquired more wealth than the $46,000. Alhaji Ramadan who described the sentence as out of proportion said Mallam Issah was a victim of circumstances he did not understand.

He explained that although he is not asking the NPP government to condone stealing if Mallam would not have appeared in court if he belonged to the ruling party. According to the PNC National Treasurer, the former Youth and Sports Minister was an easy target to show for the President Kufuor’s acclaimed zero tolerance for corruption.

Mallam Issah was on Friday, sentenced to a four-year jail term by the Fast Track Court, which found him guilty on two counts of stealing and causing financial loss to the state. He was also fined ten million cedis and asked to refund the missing 46 thousand dollars.
