Accra, July 7, GNA - Dr Edward Nasigrie Mahama, Peoples National Convention (PNC) Presidential Candidate, on Saturday embarked on a campaign tour to the Brong Ahafo Region to reach out to the rural communities to explain to them the PNC's policies on agriculture, health and education.
The campaign tour, which would take him to places like Bechem and Techiman, would offer the Presidential candidate the opportunity to meet with people in the various communities at the town halls where the citizens could also share their views and challenges with him. Dr Mahama told the Ghana News Agency that, the tour would also be an opportunity for the PNC to learn at first hand how the school feeding programme in rural communities was being implemented. "We will move from village to village, south to north and reach out to farmers and the entire rural folk who I call the working poor, they are working so hard but they do not get the desired benefits," Dr Mahama said
Calling for people to vote for the party, he said, PNC government would treat all farmers just like how the cocoa farmers are being treated now and encourage them to cultivate crops like maize, rice and cassava.
"A PNC led administration will create irrigation projects to help farmers grow and harvest all year round and will also provide inputs like fertilizers and other agricultural tools to facilitate the work of the ordinary farmer while giving them fixed farm gate prices. "Farm gate prices, means that government will provide ready market for farm produce, farmers will not have to struggle to take their produce to the markets to sell; there will be vehicle ready in their farms to buy the food stuff from them," Dr Mahama said. He said such policies would prevent post-harvest losses and other difficulties encountered by farmers in the country.
