Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - Dr Edward Mahama, flag bearer of the People's National Convention, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the hardship farmers are going through as a result of unfavourable policies.

Dr Mahama, who is on a four-day campaign tour in some parts of the Eastern Region, said mitigation measures announced by President John Agyekum Kufuor had only exacerbated the hardship of Ghanaians because of higher prices of foodstuffs.

A statement issued by his campaign team said the PNC flag bearer told residents of Maame Krobo, a farming community in the Afram Plains of the Eastern Region, that, Ghana had the potential of ensuring absolute food security for herself and even have excess to export rather than always relying on other countries for food aid. He emphasized the need for a change in attitude for a prosperous Ghana and added that his party would continue with all viable investments, programmes and projects that were currently in place with a commitment to perform better than they would inherit.

Mr Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the PNC, said Ghana under the Kufuor administration was going through uncountable problem of unemployment, poor quality of education, collapse of agriculture and farm implements, poor or absence of health care, among others, saying it was only Dr Mahama and the PNC government who could redeem the country from all these hardships.

"Ghana is pregnant with hardship and can only be delivered through a doctor who is Dr. Mahama," he added. The campaign team visited Nsawam, Suhum, Adaeso, Tease, Dokokrom, amongst several other places.
