Accra, Sept. 9, GNA - The People's National Convention (PNC) on Tuesday expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding the conviction and sentence of Tsatsu Tsikata, former Chief Executive Officer of GNPC, by the Fast Track High Court. A statement signed by Mr Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the Party, said while they are not advocating that persons found guilty should not be punished, it believed that the processes of the trial, judgment and conviction of such persons should be in accordance with due process.

"We therefore lend our collective voice as a political party to the cry for justice, and for the judiciary to re-examine dispassionately the circumstances surrounding Mr. Tsikata's case, and then begin the slow process of redeeming its sinking image in the eyes of the public." The Accra Fast Track High Court has jailed Tsikata for five years after finding him guilty of wilfully causing financial loss to the state and misapplication of public property.

The statement said the PNC stood in solidarity with the family and friends of Tsikata, who have in various ways been engaged in trying to raise awareness of the public in relation to his incarceration. It said the PNC hoped that the judiciary would adhere to its call so as to enlist public confidence in the institution of justice.
