THE Peoples National Convention (PNC) has begun organising delegates congresses throughout its 200 constituencies to elect new officers in preparation for the next general elections.

The exercise forms part of the party’s long term strategy to strengthen and reactivate structures in the constituencies to enable them to play their expected roles of mobilising the electorate to vote massively for it at the next polls.

The leader of the party, Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, who said this in an interview in Accra yesterday, said the constituency branches of the party have up to November to complete the holding of their congresses to instal new officers.
According to him, the party holds the view that its grassroot structures must be made impregnable to stand the test of time especially after the conduct of the general elections.
Dr Mahama said the PNC is determined to make its structures virile to ensure that they work effectively, especially after general elections to facilitate the registration of people who have reached the voting age as well as sustain the confidence of the electorate in the party.
The PNC leader said the party is also committed to educating the electorate, employing its constituency executives to disseminate its programmes which he claimed can salvage the economy and bring material prosperity to the broad masses of the people.
Dr Mahama further disclosed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PNC will meet in November, this year, to fix dates for the organising of national congresses for the election of new national officers of the party.
He said the NEC will also determine the date and the details for the holding of a special congress to elect a flagbearer for the 2004 presidential elections.
The PNC leader said it is the intention of the party to elect high office holders to enable it to prepare adequately to fight and win the next elections, stressing: “ We are leaving no stone unturned to win the 2004 elections and form the next government in January 2005”.
Dr Mahama called on the party’s rank and file to work hard in the coming months to help the party actualise its dream of chalking a convincing victory at the next polls. He said the PNC will soon state its position on matters of crucial national interest such as the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF)
