PNC members won’t serve in NPP government – Bernard Mornah

The chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has said no member of the party will be allowed to serve in the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

According to Bernard Mornah, releasing their members will amount to divide-and-rule, a situation, he said, which will gravely affect the party’s electoral fortunes.

His comment is in reaction to a call on President Akufo-Addo to appoint more PNC members who are ready to serve in his government.

The party’s Vice-Chairman, Henry Asante, while delivering their solidarity message at the NPP’s National Delegates’ Conference at Cape Coast in the Central Region, appealed to the President to consider them in his appointment.

He also thanked President Akufo-Addo for appointing Dr Edward Mahama, the party’s flagbearer for the 2016 general elections, as Ambassador-at-large.

But in a rebuttal, Bernard Mornah on Adom News expressed shock at the conduct of his comrade.

“We never said we were going to avail our members for appointment by the NPP. As a party, we are not excited one millimeter that our members are being taken; that is divide and rule” he stressed.

The PNC Chairman indicated that the speech he sent to Henry Asante to deliver at the NPP’s conference did not include begging for a post and thanking the President for appointing Dr. Edward Mahama.

“My General Secretary is not happy; I’m not happy Edward Mahama accepted the appointment without informing us so we cannot commend the President for doing something which is causing division in our party.”

Bernard Mornah said the call for positions in government is an individual appeal, thus it cannot represent the position of the PNC.
