PPAG introduces Girls Empowerment Project in Bongo

The Planned Parenthood Association Ghana (PPAG) has announced the introduction of girls empowerment project designed to help adolescent girls make right choices.

As part of the strategy to push for more community involvement to get the project to succeed, it organised a community sensitization programme to educate its stakeholders on the new project.

The event, which took place in Bongo was attended by Representatives from the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana Education Service, the Department for Community Development, the Social Welfare Department, traditional rulers, assembly members, religious leaders and other stakeholders in the informal sector.

Mrs Matilda Ayamga, the PPAG facility Head, said the vision of PPAG is to ensure that "all in the country, especially the young population and the vulnerable groups have unhindered access to utilize Sexually and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services.

She said as part of efforts to render its services to Ghanaians, it was necessary for the organization to collaborate with its key stakeholders to achieve the project objective.

Mrs Ayamga said that as a leading Non Governmental Organisation in the area of SRHR, the organization would embark on some activities known as "Know your nurse", "Know your client", outreaches to distribute free contraceptives, teach integrated Mini- Livelihood skills, Yole activities and hold meetings with pregnant and teen parent groups to help in the empowerment process.

Mr Adam Azabre Abugbila, PPAG Field Officer for Girls Empowerment Project in the Bongo District, said the strategy would empower the girls to manage their lives well.

He called on the stakeholders to support the implementation of the project to enable it to succeed.
