YLed Boss Condemns calls for “the Three Wise men” to retire

The Executive Director of Youth for Leadership, a youth leadership development Civil Society Organization, Mr Richard Krobea Asante has condemned calls by the General Secretery of Progressive People’s Party, Mr Asamoah Siaw on the need for Hon. Alban Bagbin, Hon. E T Mensah and Hon. Cletus Avorka to retire.

According to him, the best way this nation can move forward is to manage the blend between the older generation and the upcoming ones to ensure a more efficient passage of the leadership mantle to the latter.

To Mr. Krobea, the fact that Mr. Siaw’s flag bearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi is sixty years and fort that matter five years older than Hon. Alban Bagbin and just a couple of years younger than Cletus Avorka and a couple more younger than E T Mensah makes his point extremely laughable.

“If at 60 years old, Mr. Siaw believes that Dr. Nduom has the strength to lead this nation for the next eight in the highest and most demanding office of the land, then it is extremely hypocritical on his part to call for the retirement of the Three wise men”

He went further to debunk allegation that due to the collapse of the STX housing deal and the lack of visible improvement in the housing sector, the duo have nothing more to offer.

According to Mr. Krobea, the PPP scribe did not only fail to take into consideration the short duration within which the duo served in that Ministry.

“Is Mr. Siaw telling us that Bagbin and E T Mensah could have worked magic to restore the housing deficit within two and a half years in office?”

“Obviously many are exploiting the fact that they have been in leadership position for a long time for their own political expedience.”

If Mr. Siaw says that Bagbin, E T and Cletus Avorka have outlived their usefulness because of their age, then he should stop campaigning for Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom because he cannot run Ghana at 60 and must there for stop wasting our time.

He set an example of how Ghana used the age factor to force great sportsmen like Abedi Pele, Anthony Yeboah, Sam Johnson amongst others into early retirement when there were no prepared replacement.

When Ghana forced Abedi Pele and Anthony Yeboah into early retirement, it took well over eight years to get a team capable getting to the top.

Do we have a replacement for Alban Bagbin in our Parliament today? Is he aware of the problems parliament encountered when he left leadership position in the house to join the executive?

Is he aware of the vacuum created when E T Mensah when left the Sports Ministry?

He further sited the example of, Robert C. Byrd, Daniel K. Inouye, Strom Thurmond, Edward M Kennedy and others who served in the US Senate for over 40 years without being put under any sort of pressure to retire. “Ghana is privileged to have such knowledgeable men at the helm of affairs and it would be highly unreasonable to force then into retirement when in actual fact they have the strength to carry on for the ten years and even beyond” Until he can name an a replacement for Bagbin, E T Mensah and Cletus Avorka, he should keep his mouth shut and instead learn from them because I believe this is the time to give them all the support to spur them on and instigate them to transfer what they have learnt to the younger generation” He concluded.
