PPP national tour causing waves

*The national campaign tour embarked on by the presidential candidate of

the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, since last

Thursday has received outstanding support and patronage throughout the

regions visited so far.

Dr. Nduom together with his campaign team kick-started his nationwide tour

at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region where many residents gathered at

vantage points along the streets to welcome and receive him amidst singing,

drumming and dancing accompanied by brass band music.****

Whiles there, the PPP presidential hopeful paid a courtesy call to the

Odikro and Ohyehene, Dr. Nana Obeng Wiabo V, at his palace.****

In his address, Nana Wiabo intimated that Ghanaians in general have

experienced the governance of all the political parties in the country,

knowing what they can offer and stressed that it is time Ghanaians try

another party for the nation to progress steadily.****

The chief, who kept referring to Dr. Nduom as Ghana’s next president,

assured the PPP standard bearer of their (chiefs in the area) commitment to

give him (Dr. Nduom) the needed support to enable him succeed in his quest

to become president of the Republic of Ghana. ****

He commended Dr. Nduom on the clean way in which he organises his campaign

and charged his followers to emulate him.

Nana Wiabo pleaded with Dr. Nduom to make his number one priority the

plight of orphans and children suffering from all kinds of illness in order

to help secure their future.

In his response, Dr. Nduom said he began his nationwide tour from the

Nyanyano, because the area has so much in common with his he (Nduom) comes

from, Elmina, particularly fishing.

He stated that PPP is ready for the challenge of managing the affairs of

the nation into prosperity, and charged Ghanaians to have confidence in the

party and vote massively for him in the upcoming December elections.

He called for an immediate end to politics of insults and announced that

his party will continue to the clean campaign to maintain peace and order

in the country.

Touching on what the PPP will do if Ghanaians give him the mandate to be

president, Dr. Nduom promised to institute a policy to ensure that

education from the Kindergarten to the Senior High School (SHS) level is

free. He also promised to build more schools and teachers bungalows as

well as give teachers the salaries they deserve to facilitate his agenda

for education. ****

On health, Dr. Nduom stated that his main priority will be on improving

sanitation across the country to reduce the incidence of malaria as

countries, such as the USA, have done.

He charged people to discard the notion that a vote for the PPP is a wasted

vote, and affirmed that the party has come to lift Ghanaians from the

difficulties and hardship inflicted on them by the National Democratic

Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). **

At Nyanyano, Dr. Nduom also addressed the leadership of the fishing

community at a mini-durbar.****

Dr. Nduom later went to Awutu Senya Beraku, his ancestral hometown, where

he briefly met with his family, the chief of the town and later addressed a

durbar organised in his honour. ****

The first phase of the Central Region tour ended at Apam. Although the

programme went deep into the night, the chief and people waited patiently

for Dr. Nduom and his team to turn up. ****

At a durbar organised in his honour, Dr. Nduom assured the people that a

PPP government will fight hard to improve education and the fishing

industry, the main occupation of the people of Apam. ****

The Nduom bandwagon then made its way to two other ancient fishing towns,

Moree and Biriwa, also in the Central Region****

In a scenario reminiscent of the conversion of the entire township of the

two fishing communities, many who thronged the campaign ground of the PPP

were later spotted in groups after the mini-rally discussing the air of

peace and decency that this new political party is breathing into Ghana’s

politics. ****

At the durbar ground, Dr. Nduom made a quick dash to a biometric

registration centre close to by to assess how the third phase of the

exercise was going, and was told it has been very peaceful in the area. He

advised them to continue the good work. ****

Dr. Nduom challenged the people of the Moree to be conscious of sanitation

to avoid the outbreak of preventable diseases that, ironically, remain

killers in Ghana and on the entire African continent. ****

He assured the chiefs and people of the two towns that his administration

will make environmental cleanliness a top policy priority just like the

policies to ensure job creation for the youth and an incorruptible national

administration. ****

Similar scenario was enacted during PPP’s earlier visit to Biriwa in the

Mfantsiman West Constituency and lying to the west off the Anomabo section

of the Accra-Cape Coast road in the Central Region. The signs were clear

right from Mankessim that the PPP could receive in the Central Region

unprecedented boost to its activities. ****

That deduction was clearly established during Dr. Nduom’s visit to Esuahyia

in the Mfanstsiman East Constituency, Central Region. People from the

farming community met Dr. Nduom on the Accra-Cape Coast highway and

accompanied him to the inland town amidst drumming and dancing. ****

Some of them accompanied the PPP entourage from the High-way to the

Esuahyia town where a huge durbar was organized at the Esuahyia Traditional

Council premises in honour of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom. In attendance were the

chairman of the Ekumfi Traditional Council, Nana Impriam; his Tufuhene, the

Sanaahene, Ankobeahene, Akwaamuhene and many others who head traditional

entities within Ekumfi. ****

According to sources, ecstatic unemployed youth were first to spot the

Nduom entourage from a distance and quickly spread the message to other

townfolks at Kormantse, Abanadze, Egya No.s 1, 2 & 3 and Anomabo. From the

gestures of the residents and indigenes of those towns, they would have

preferred Edwumawura and his team to have stopped in their towns to share a

moment or two with them before he going on to Biriwa. ****

The Biriwa durbar in honour of the PPP and Dr. Nduom was attended by the

chief, Nana Kwaw Bonko. ****

The next phase of Dr. Nduom’s tour took him to the Eastern Region, which he

took by storm. Scores of people in Odumase, Lower Manya Krobo District,

defied the cold night and stayed out to welcome Edwumawura.****

The the venue for the rally, Odumase Lorry Park, was inundated by party

activists clad in the PPP colours of red and white. Conspicuous were some

of the sweat-drenched but persevering party die-hards who had waited since

10:00 A.M. for the arrival of the business magnate and party standard

bearer, Dr. Nduom.****

During the mini-rally, Dr Nduom introduced the party’s parliamentary

candidate of Lower Manya Constituency, Alex Tetteh-Narh, to the people.****

He told them Mr. Narh will not be a mere bench warmer in Parliament when

they vote for him and urged them to support the candidate in every

possible way to win the seat. ****

Delayed by his visits to Nsawam-Adoagyire and Obosomase, Dr. Nduom reached

Akropong later than scheduled, but the town folk turned up for massive

festival during which inhabitants refused to allow Dr Nduom take leave of

them.****

Earlier, Dr. Nduom paid a courtesy call on the Queen Mother of Adoagyire

and also visited the wood carvers at Aburi where he introduced to the

people the PPP parliamentary candidate for the Akuapen South Constituency,

Kwaku Fredua Agyeman.****
