PPP poised to rescue Ghana

Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has said it is poised to rescue Ghana from the clutches of an incompetent, greedy, and corrupt government that has brought untold hardships to the citizenry.

To this end, the party said it would work hard to pull Ghana from the brink of economic collapse into a state of prosperity and development when elected to power.

PPP National Chairman, Nii-Allottey Brew-Hammond, said this when he unveiled the party’s parliamentary candidate for Sunyani East constituency in the Brong Ahafo region.

According to him, the PPP intends to tap the best of Ghanaian human resources to help get the country out of the woods, saying the current economic hardship and the electricity power crisis will be a thing of the past if the PPP is mandated to steer the affairs of the nation.

He averred that the total development which the country is yearning for could become a reality if metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives are elected.

That, he went on to affirm, will be done by the PPP.

Urging the electorate to vote for the PPP in the 2016 General Elections, he maintained that the party would root out corruption which, according to him, was a major drain on the resources of the country.

To demonstrate the PPP’s resolve to fight the canker, the chairman reiterated his party’s promise to create an independent prosecutors office to combat corruption.

He appealed for support for Mrs. Vivian Tettey, the parliamentary candidate of PPP for Sunyani East, come election 2016 to ensure victory.

For his part, General Secretary of PPP, Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, urged Ghanaians to cast ballot for PPP, saying a vote for the party was not a wasted ballot as the so-called big political parties in the country claimed.

According to him, a wasted ballot is the one that the voter does not get any benefit from the political party that he/she votes for when that party assumes power.

“PPP must be the first choice of every Ghanaian, anyone who for us is making a statement of choice,” he noted.

Speaking on the current debate on the voters register; Mr. Asamoah-Siaw said Ghana could have a credible register if the national identification cards are used as a module for registration of new voters who attain the age of 18.

He added that the Electoral Commission should put the right mechanism in place and ensure that voters have confidence in the voters register and electoral process.

Mr. Asamoah-Siaw announced that the party will hold its 2015 National Convention on Saturday, 31st October, 2015 in Takoradi in the Western region.

According to him, “The main purpose of the convention will be to look at the way forward for the party and strategise to form government in 2016.

He said already all constituencies have begun parliamentary primaries to select candidates for the 2016 polls.

Mrs. Tettey said she will do whatever she can to improve the wellbeing of women when elected to represent the constituents in Parliament.

“When a woman is empowered then the whole community is also empowered. Empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors is essential to building a stronger economy and improving the quality of life for women, men, families and communities,” she explained.
