The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) says it is not a splinter of any party but a completely new group which is the representation of the people of Ghana.

“As a matter of fact, the PPP is represented mostly by a completely new group of people forming a new party which is targeting the youth who are the future of the nation to bring on board new ideas to move the nation forward”, Mr David Apofo, a member of the PPP Communication Team said in Accra.

Mr Ampofo said this when he led a five-man team of communication officials of the party to visit the Ghana News Agency to share ideas on what the two organisations can do together to better the lot of Ghanaians and move the nation forward.

He said the people of Ghana were looking for alternatives in the governance of the country and the PPP wanted the opportunity to implement an Agenda for that Change that was built on four pillars- Stewardship, Education, Healthcare and Jobs creation as contained in its manifesto which is called the “The Ten Point Platform”.

“We will implement the Agenda using the spirit of inclusiveness that will enable us to use the best Ghanaians with the full participation of women and the youth and above all, a leadership that is incorruptible.

By dealing with corruption, we can double government revenue which we will use to pay for our transformational initiatives in education, healthcare and job creation.”

Mr Ampofo said in the platform, the party was expected and therefore would create a just and Disciplined Society, Improve the Performance of Government, Give power to the people for development and strengthen Parliament to perform its legislative duties effectively.

He said the PPP believed that the move would make available for governance a large pool of qualified, experienced Ghanaian talents whose expertise was currently unused and therefore lost to Ghana.

“This we will aim to complete in one term of office” and concurrently with this objective will be a solid determination to give Parliament the facilities and resources needed to pass good laws and scrutinize the proposals submitted by the Executive effectively.

In addition, the party would provide quality education for every Ghanaian Child, better healthcare in addition to the provision of energy for industrialization and rapid development among other interventions.

Mr Ampofo praised the GNA for publishing positive and developmental stories that promoted peace and tranquility in the country and urged the staff to continue the good works.

I have always cherished this idea that “when you deal with GNA you are at home because of its unbiased and objective stance in reporting”.

Mr Theophilus Mawusi Afele, The Acting General Manager of the Agency thanked the visitors for the visit and said he was particularly happy that the PPP had seen the relevance of the Agency.

Mr Afele said though the GNA was currently not making the impact and the strength in news dissemination due to internet services, it was still playing a key role in news gathering not only for the Ghanaian Public, but the world over.

“Our greatest strength now is in the rural areas where our importance is mostly felt because most of the media houses do not reach those areas. **
