The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Leader in charge of Youth Affairs Felix Mantey has lauded the youth of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region for preventing Engineers & Planners (E&P) from entering Nyinahin forest reserve to mine bauxite.

“I support the action of the youth 100% and I wish this will happen in all mining areas.

Felix Mantey was reacting to media reports suggesting that angry youth of Nyinahini in the Atwima Mponua District have prevented workers of E&P from entering the forest reserve with heavy duty equipments to begin mining bauxite in the forest.

The action of the angry youth reportedly resulted in a standoff between the truck drivers.

Reports say it took the timely intervention of armed police to restore calm as there was near clashes between the aggrieved residents and the drivers of the four (4) heavy trucks with inscription of Engineers and Planners.

It would be recalled that John Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) granted a bauxite concession to Exton Cubic Group Limited, which is linked to Ibrahim Mahama, young brother of former president to for a period of 21 years few days to the exit of power.

This last minutes decision has angered firebrand Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye DC who has filed a suit at the Supreme Court against Mr Ibrahim Mahama over the bauxite concession granted to him.

He is challenging the legitimacy of the concession.

Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda on, Tuesday Felix Mantey described the action of the youth as timely and commendable.

He argued the citizens of this country have the responsibility to protect state resources, saying protecting state resources is not the sole responsibility of police or government.

“If authorities who are supposed to protect what belonged to the state fail will pass through back door and issue license to cronies to mine in reserves….the last stop is the local people … so if the youth of Nyinahin have resisted E&P I think it’s a step in the right direction,” he stated.
