As Eva Lokko calls for peace & unity
The PPP's "Don't Waste Your Vote On Those Who Have Disappointed You In The 4th Republic" campaign message will be spread all over the Ashanti Region this week starting today, Monday, 17th September.
A powerful PPP National Team will meet the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.
The team will include the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom; his running mate, Ms. Eva Lokko; the National chairman, Nii Allottey Brew-Hammond; Vice Chairpersons, National Secretary, Treasurer, and members of the National Committee.
A Media Encounter will be organised for the PPP presidential candidate to address media personnel in the region and answer their questions in Kumasi on Tuesday evening.
The team will also meet PPP polling station executives in several constituencies in the region.
The National Team will explain its "Win Votes For PPP in 2012" strategy to the polling station executives.
Meanwhile the 2012 vice-presidential candidate of the PPP, Ms. Eva Naa Merley Lokko, has called for peace and unity in Ghana, as the country heads towards the 2012 polls.
According to her, each person in the country has a civic responsibility to ensure peace before, during, and after the 2012 elections no matter which party one belongs to.
She noted that “our struggles should rather be against poverty, diseases and the predicament the nation is suffering from and not against one another.” Ms. Lokko, who is currently the sole female running mate for the 2012 elections, made the call at a Thanksgiving Service in honour of her at the Wesley Methodist Church at Palladium in Accra yesterday.
The Service was also to thank God for her nomination to the high rank of an aspiring vice-president of the country.
Scores of testimonies were also given about Ms. Lokko’s service and contributions to the church, society and the world as a whole. A circuit minister of the Wesley Methodist Church, Rev. Abraham Boateng, eulogised Madam Lokko’s outstanding attributes, affirming that she has been a dedicated member of the church since her childhood.
The Reverend Minister testified of the PPP running mate’s character which he stressed was one that “…always sought for the welfare of the youth and served as a Chairperson of the Education and Youth Committee as well as a Conference and Synod member of the Methodist Church Ghana.”
In his sermon, the resident Circuit Minister, Rev. Ishmael Ofori-Quaye, advised Christians to let the light of Christ shine through them to the world so as to attract many to Christ. He also urged Christians, especially those in leadership positions, to be transparent in all their dealings.
The environment, he added, should be of concern to mankind, cautioning against the pollution of the environment; he also called for measures to be put in place to nip the galamsey (illegal mining) scourge in the bud.
Rev. Ofori-Quaye formally announced the nomination of Ms. Eva Lokko as the vice-presidential candidate to the PPP’s Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, which was met with rapturous applause from the packed congregation.
The reverend minister exhorted Madam Lokko to put Christ ahead in all her dealings, especially as she has entered into the world of politics.
The church offered prayers for her for God’s protection and guidance.
Madam Lokko was accompanied by the PPP National Women’s Leader, Madam Belinda Bulley, an Executive member of the PPP, Mr. Jojo Grant, and PPP parliamentary candidates from the Greater Accra Region.
