Accra, Sept. 21, GNA - The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSG), on Tuesday donated drugs valued at 5.2 million cedis to HelpAge Ghana (HAG) in Accra. The drugs, meant to assist HelpAge in its medical care for the aged, are made up of blood tonic, vitamins and analgesics.

Mr Dela C. Ashiabor, President of PSG, said that each year the society undertakes social services in communities it earmarks for its Annual General Meeting. He said since this year's meeting would be held in Accra, the society decided to donate the drugs to HelpAge because 1999 has been designated the 'International Year of Older Persons'.

Mr Ashiabor said the drugs were contributions from some drug manufacturers, individuals and members of the society. Mr Joseph D. Mensah, Director of HelpAge, briefed the members on the operations of HAG and asked PSG to help it in its advocacy programme by coming up with suggestions that will enhance policy on the aged.

He appealed to the society to assist HelpAge to pay the cost of surgery for a member with hernia.
