Techiman (B/A), March. 5, GNA- The Parent Teacher Association of Islamic Primary and Junior High School in Techiman has earmarked GH¢50,000 for the construction of new buildings to replace the dilapidated structures.
Mr Adams Ameyaw, PTA Chairman, who disclosed this at the annual general meeting and harvest of the school at Techiman, said the project would be completed within three years.
He said each parent will pay GH¢3 per child and appealed to the parents to co-operate by paying promptly.
Mr Yahaya Musah, Assembly Member for Konimase Electoral area deplored the low participation of parents in the school activities and advised parents to take keen interest in the education of their children.
He appealed to the Assembly to provide the school with a four-classroom block each for the Junior High School and the Kindergarten to ease congestion in the classrooms. Mr Musah was not happy about the persistent encroachment of the school lands by drinking bar operators and other anti-social activities in the area.
Mr Yahaya Zakaria, Techiman circuit supervisor of Ghana Education Service asked parents to note that the education of their children was an investment which must not be compromised.
Mr Kofi Asamoah Abanaba, Presiding Member of the Municipal Assembly, disclosed that the school feeding programme would soon be extended to other schools in the municipality. He indicated that the success of the educational reforms would need the commitment of a lot of resources, which the government alone could not provide and hence the need for community assistance. Mr Asibi Asarhuku, headmaster of Islamic Junior High School, said the capitation grant had increased enrolment in the Kindergarten to more than 400 while the Primary 'A' and 'B' had a total population of 748 pupils and 283 students in the Junior High school. Mr Seidu Ali, assistant secretary of the Association of Garages, who presided, asked the people to take good care of the teachers and to ensure that they see to their children's home work. An appeal for funds yielded GH¢740, while Mr Ali donated five bags of cement towards the school project.
