Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that Black Stars defender John Paintsil may have taken his dexterity on the football pitch to his home, headbutting his wife Richlove Paintsil on the upper eyelid resulting in a deep cut, last Friday.

Paintsil could be charged with threats of death and assault, according to the police, who are determined to pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

Despite Richlove’s attempts to downplay the assault on her, it has been discovered that she suffered a deep cut on the upper eyelid and was rushed to the Ghana-Canada Hospital located in East Legon where she was treated by Dr Nartey.

The information indicated that John Paintsil actually scaled their wall to the house of Amoah Danquah, a neighbour and also the complainant in the case, allegedly wielding a pocket knife; but he was prevented from stabbing Richlove.

Paintsil, the deputy skipper of the Ghana Black Stars, allegedly gave the neighbour some “dirty slaps” and stormed out.

The aggrieved neighbor, Amoah Danquah, is the Chief Executive of Mighty Power Company Limited, producers of several brands of herbal medicine.

Richlove’s clothes, according to the information, were heavily soaked in blood after the attack from her husband, and she was consequently rushed to Dr Nartey’s hospital for treatment.

According to a doctor’s report, the embattled wife of the Black Stars deputy skipper was “badly assaulted”.

The affected eyelid was stitched after which the victim, who requested that she be discharged, was sent home by Dr Nartey to report later for further medical attention.

Narrating the incident, Amoah Danquah said the woman came running to his house to escape her rampaging husband who jumped over the wall to pursue her.

He said: “As I tried to stop him [from] getting to his wife, he slapped me ‘gbo, gbo’. He was fighting me and another guy held him. He was violent and behaved like someone under the influence of something.”

According to Amoah Danquah, Paintsil and his family had been persistently begging him to drop the case against the top footballer.

Several mediators, including Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials, harassed him, pleading on behalf of the ace Black Stars defender.

Families of Paintsil and his wife reportedly stormed Accra over the weekend to mediate between the two.

The complainant is said to have stated that even though he might be willing to drop the complaint, he expects the defender to sign a bond to be of good behaviour.

Amoah Danquah lodged a complaint with the Legon Police in Accra against the footballer, whom he accused of assaulting him as well as Richlove Paintsil, wife of the defender.

Meanwhile, the Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh, has told DAILY GUIDE that the police have not been informed that the complaint has decided not to press any charges against the Ghanaian footballer.

He noted that police has not received any statement from the complainant that he does not want to further pursue the matter and that the case should be dropped.

“Complainant cannot prefer charges against Paintsil. It is the duty of the police to prefer the charges and even if he wants the case to be dropped, you have to officially write to the police,” he added.

He stated that Mr. Amoah Danquah has not written any letter to the police indicating that the matter should be dropped.

DSP Freeman Tetteh also indicated that Richlove came voluntarily to give out her statement and was not forced.

When the paper further contacted Mr. Amoah Danquah on the telephone, he declined to further comment on the issue and hanged up.

The incident, which took place around 4:30pm Friday evening, was immediately reported to the Legon Police and John Paintsil was arrested and put behind bars.

He was subsequently released after officials of the GFA pleaded with the police to free him.

It is unclear what actually caused the heated quarrel, but there are speculations that the fight might have been triggered by the footballer’s alleged escapades with prostitutes in South Africa during the African Cup of Nations tournament.
