Pan African Village launched

The Omanhene of Asebu Traditional Area, Okatakyi Dr. Amanfi VII, on 7th October 2019, launched the Asebu Pan African Village Project at the Ghana Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York.

The project is in support of President Akufo-Addo’s initiative for 2019 “Year of Return”.

On this note, the Asebu Traditional Council has offered 5K acres of land to Africans in the Diaspora.

The launching saw hundreds of African Americans, who expressed great interest in the project and pledged their continued support and participation in the “Year of Return” activities.

In his opening remarks, Okatakyi Dr. Amanfi, VII, expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for his immense support for the initiative and deemed it as a call to duty.

"We find the President’s call on our brothers and sisters in the diaspora to return to their roots historic and inspiring”, he revealed.

Nana Obokese Ampah I, Apagyahen of Asebu Traditional Area and Project Coordinator assured the enthusiastic gathering a great welcome when they decide to seize this opportunity.

Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib of Coastal Development Authority, made a presentation on technical services support his agency will provide the Pan African Village Project.

Mr. Akwasi Awuah Ababio, Director of Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President, encouraged the global African community not to view the “Year of Return” as just a call but rather a courtesy and an invitation from H. E Nana Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana to consider Ghana as their home.

Mr. Alfred Thompson signed up customers for the National Investment Bank and explained a special product the Bank has come up with for the Asebu Pan African Village Project to make repatriation of funds to Ghana by the Diasporas stress-free.

Prof. Samuel Amoako, Consul General of Ghana in New York also discussed ongoing government efforts towards making travel to Ghana by people of African descents all over the world very easy.

Dr. Umar Johnson and Rabbi Kohain Halevi, Pan African Activists of global repute, got the house on "fire" with a call for all Africans to return home and contribute towards the development of the motherland.

The Omanhene, his entourage and government officials paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations.

The Ambassador was glad the Traditional Council chose the Mission for such an honourable gesture that seeks to support the “Year of Return”.

This followed right after she received another royalty in the name of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti Kingdom when he visited the United Nations for the UNGA Culture of Peace 20th Anniversary.
