The over 30 judges who were caught on video allegedly taking bribes should be pardoned, a top religious leader in Ghana has appealed.

The Spiritual Leader of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council of Ghana Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson said he believes the embattled members of the bench have learnt their lessons, although bitter, and deserve forgiveness looking at their sensitive role.

Twenty-two out of the 34 judges are on suspension after investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas caught them on camera negotiating and receiving bribes to free suspects appearing before them.

Twelve of the embattled judges of the high court are under investigations in connection with the corruption scandal.

“If the judiciary will listen to my plea, then I will ask for pardon for these judges,” the leader of the Israel King of Jews church told a section of the media Thursday.

“I will ask for pardon so that they come and rectify what they have done. Because when someone does something bad in the sight of God and he comes back to himself that what he has done is not good, he tries to do what is good or what is right,” Nakoa Jamson added.

The General Overseer of the Israel King of Jews Church disclosed he has been praying for the people “who are sitting on a high throne” and believes God will see them through in these trying times.

“I will continue to pray for them so that nobody will fall into such an act again,” the spiritual leader said during a courtesy call on him by the national chief Imam Dr. Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu and his council.

He added: “If you are sitting on a high throne of God on earth like this as a judge to judge the needy, the poor and the rich then you have to choose the correct line: you have to choose the truth.”
