Parents advised to desist from interfering with postings of teachers

Nkawie (Ash), May 17, GNA - Parents and guardians have been advised to desist from interfering with the postings of newly trained teachers to fill vacancies at places where their services were mostly needed. They should rather encourage and offer the needed support to their wards to accept postings to the rural areas.

Interacting with some training college final year students at Nkawie in the Atwima district last Friday, Mr Richard Owusu-Agyemang, an assistant director of education in-charge of public relations unit at the Atwima district education directorate, said it is the aim of the government to raise the standard of education to the level of the urban centres.

To realise this objective, he said, the government was addressing the problem of education infrastructure such as teachers' living bungalow and classroom blocks in the rural areas.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang said several incentive packages including bicycles, cooking utensils, ghetto blasters and the granting of study leave after two years instead of three years of continuous teaching would be granted to teachers in the most deprived rural areas to motivate them.

Apart from putting up several classroom blocks, teachers' living accommodation and renovation of dilapidated public structures to supplement the government efforts, he said the Atwima district assembly was also sponsoring over 400 teacher trainees in various training colleges to fill vacancies in the district.

"It would therefore be a waste of resources if parents influenced the postings of these sponsored teachers", he noted.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang said the newly trained teachers are adequately counselled and offered intensive orientation before they were posted and assured parents that their wards were in safe hands.
