Parents asked to invest 'heavily' in education of children

Madam Eyonam Amafuga, Volta Regional Director of Education, has charged parents to invest “heavily” in the education of children for stress-free future family life.

She said quality education was the gateway to rapid socio-economic development of societies and that when children were educated they were equipped with “requisite skills, knowledge, attitude and acumen” to carry out duties effectively for the good of families and societies.

Madam Amafuga who was speaking at the 2018 graduation ceremony of Wallahs Academy in Ho, said education in the 21st century was confronted with rise in cost and infrastructural limitation and that if parents did not reduce expenditure on certain activities, the education of their children would be jeopardized despite government’s effort.

The ceremony, which saw the graduation of 100 students, also marked the 10th anniversary of Wallahs Academy under the theme; “Ten years of quality and affordable private senior high education: Achievements, Challenges and Prospects.”

Mr Rockson Dogbegah, Chairman, Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) Construction Sector, asked parents to find innovative ways of associating with teachers to help improve teacher-parent relationship towards academic excellence.

He also advised parents not to impose their dreams on children because it affected their ability to be creative and innovative.

Mr Maxwell Affram, Rector, Wallahs Academy, said despite challenges confronting the School, it stayed afloat in terms of academic fortunes and called for support from stakeholders.

He said the unmitigated supply of mobile phones to the student by some parents and guardians was disrupting regulations of the School and affecting teaching and learning.

Mr Affram appealed to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and other stakeholders to help the school acquire a bus.
