Parents blamed for giving large sums of money to their children

Fiapre (B/A), Feb 18, GNA- Sister Leonora Tucker, Assistant Headmistress of Notre Dame Girls Secondary School at Fiapre, near Sunyani has spoken against some parents giving large sums of money as pocket money and mobile phones to their wards.

The practice is dangerous as it breeds jealousy and stealing among students on campus, she explained.

Addressing a meeting of the school's Parent Teacher Association, the Assistant Headmistress announced that the school chalked 100 per cent passes in last year's SSSCE, placing 63rd out of the 476 schools nationwide.

She said there was more room for improvement and assured the parents that with their support and encouragement, the school would improve its performance.

Sister Tucker advised the parents to encourage their children "when the going gets tough" in their studies.

Mrs Margaret Lucy Donkor, the Headmistress, appealed to the parents to provide their children with their needs and help to steer them away from immoral behaviours.

She urged them not just to dump their children in the school but to regularly visit them to boost their morale.

Dr Solomon Ansu Manson, chairman of the PTA appealed to the parents to pay their PTA dues promptly to ensure the construction of bungalows for the school's teachers, who live in rented quarters, for effective supervision, teaching and learning.
