Parents blamed for low standards of education

Worakese (Ash), Feb. 3, GNA - Nana Adjei Kwame II, chief of Worakese in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District, has attributed the falling standards of education to the lack of parental interest in the education of their children.

He said instead of parents showing greater interest in their children's education, some rather take interest and pride in sending the children to farm and on unnecessary errands. The Chief observed that others also engage their children in trading, such as the sales of iced water and allied wares. Nana Adjei made the observation at Worakese on Sunday at a durbar to climax the weeklong "Kohwe Kose" festival, which aims at reviving puberty rites in the community.

The chief therefore, called on parents not only to send their children to school but also provide them with all their needs for school.

He also appealed to traditional authorities to use festivals to initiate self-help projects to complement government efforts at developing the area, especially the rural settings.

The chief said it was wrong to always blame government for lack of development, when the people themselves were doing nothing about development in their areas.

Mr J. K. Asuming, Assemblyman for Worakese, appealed to the people in the area to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and other health programmes, to help prevent the occurrence of avoidable diseases.
